Immigration, cultural diversity and integration, and their implications for the VET (Vocational Education and Training) sector are currently discussed in many European countries.
On the one hand, there is an increasing need for qualified labour in many regions throughout Europe, especially in the technical crafts services and industry.
Immigration has been increasing recently here, and newcomers are trained for vacant jobs.
On the other hand, statistics show that in regions where important work immigration started 40 years ago, persons from immigrated families, even in the third generation, nowadays achieve clearly lower vocational qualification levels than the average.
This was the starting point for the transnational CATEL project: How to assure successful qualification in VET for people from migration backgrounds?
